1. One coin = one roll. 10 comments from your own character = one coin.

2. Threads must have ten comments from your own character to qualify for submission, with the exception of threads branching off of your own top-level.

3. Threads branching off of your own top-level qualify for submission if they have at least five comments from your character. The top-level counts as the first for each thread, but only counts once for the comment total. Comments in threads that do not meet this requirement will not be counted.

4. Spillover counts - if you submit a thread with 25 comments from your own character, and another with 17 comments from your own character, that is four rolls rather than three, because the extra 5 and 7 equal at least ten.

5. Any threads other than Inquisition (murder investigation and trial) threads may be submitted, as long as they meet the ten-comment minimum. This includes threads with NPCs and investigations that are not part of the Inquisition. As long as requirements are met, the same thread may be submitted by multiple characters.

6. Because meetings tend to be chaotic and involve a lot of threadjacking and jumping around, the entire meeting may be treated as a single multi-character thread. This means every ten comments your character made throughout the meeting count for one coin.

7. Multi-part tags (for example, using 5 parts to use 5 different icons in a complex reaction) will all be counted as one comment together.

Please read the information over here. Next, fill this baby out for me:

Can he use the Nekodamashi? If our characters get into a fight, this is his first option for a stun tactic. Would you prefer I avoid it? Is there some reason it wouldn't work, such as your character being deaf? Let me know here.
Can he use the Kiss of Death? This isn't one he's likely to use unless he has to. It involves smooching. Mid-fight smooching. The only time in Assassination Classroom when it isn't played for laughs is when he does it. It's unlikely to come up anyway, but if you want me to avoid it, have a reason it wouldn't work, or would like to plot out it coming up, this is the place to let me know.
Can he see your character's Wavelength of Consciousness? This is the big one. Nagisa's observational skills are top-notch, and this involves being able to make very accurate guesses about mental and emotional states. It's not mind-reading - but it's the closest an ordinary human being can pull off. It's unlikely to work well on beings without human features or human thought processes/tells. Can I use this in tags with you? It's a pretty key feature, but I am able to avoid it. Please tell me here if you want me to avoid it, and contact me over Discord (crossfortunes#5626) or on Plurk (SilverStilletto), or via a PM to this journal, if you would like to discuss any specifics such as him seeing some things but not others, or if you have any questions at all.

[IC]
This is the permissions list for IC (in-character), activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired. With IC permissions, it's a good idea to elaborate on what other players can expect from your character if they choose to do any of the following:

Hugging this character: Go ahead!
Kissing this character: Sure, but this is an experience. He's an incredibly good kisser, to the point of being able to use it as a "combat" tactic, so let's talk about exactly how silly this will get.
Flirting with this character: It'll probably fly over his head or he'll brush it off, but yeah you can do that. Or he'll take it as teasing or something, he's not good at romance.
Fighting with this character: Yep! He's easy to get the better of, physically, but he's one of those "weak but skilled" types so you can't expect to defeat him easily. Might be best to shoot me a message somewhere to chat about this.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): I think I'm willing to go up to broken bones (not severely broken, but broken) without any real prior planning? Let's talk about what you want to do to him, I'll probably say yes.
Killing this character: Let's have a solid chat about this first - like, I'm down, but I don't want it out of the blue? Even if it's just "hey what if we kill him" "sure that sounds fun".
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Have at it. Just let me know, so I can give you relevant info.

Warnings: Nagisa is from a canon about killing. He has killed. He will probably talk about things in terms of killing. Also mad science is a thing in his canon, it may come up. And several characters in his canon, himself included, have attempted suicide tactics against their target, and he doesn't have the fear that might stop him from trying something like that again. His history also contains the subject of child abuse (mental/emotional/physical) and also gender presentation issues. Finally, he's kinda snaky in nature, if you're bad with snakes maybe tread carefully?

theserpentsmiles: (Who break their backs slaving every day)
Nagisa, in canon, has access to many skills that aren't supernatural or powers of any kind, but which are at the extremes of human ability. Everything he does is possible for a sufficiently skilled real-world person - albeit perhaps with a little embellishment via visual metaphor, or a visualization/conceptualization that isn't necessarily """"how it works"""" for ease of understanding (essentially, if Nagisa thinks of one of his skills in such-and-such a way, I'll be using that to describe what's going on while a real-world person with such a skill might not think of things the same way and yet get a similar result). Furthermore, several of his signature skills amount to force of personality, and therefore will affect everyone a little differently.

Nekodamashi: Three required things for this to have the greatest effect: he must have two weapons, his target must be skilled, his target must know the fear of being killed. This is a skill to "recreate the ideal conditions for an assassination", or to regain the element of surprise via doing something that doesn't make any sense to the target in terms of battle. Namely - approaching his target in a casual, non-threatening manner, weapon in hand - then casting the weapon away when the target's focus on the weapon is at its greatest and using that moment to clap, loudly, breaking their concentration and creating an opening to attack with his second weapon. That's the basic form, anyway - exact use may vary. Can be combined with his observational skills to devastating effect. At its worst, can be compared to electrocution - albeit without any actual negative effect on the victim, this is a purely mental attack with no actual physical repercussions. Most likely less effective against the deaf or blind, and probably utterly ineffective against the deaf and blind. It can be countered or mitigated, if the target can predict it coming.

Kiss of Death: While unlikely to come into play to begin with, his kiss technique is, in theory, one of his potentially most deadly. Like the Nekodamashi, it causes no actual physical damage, and is meant to attack the mind. It's best used under circumstances where the Nekodamashi isn't viable, such as when someone is too mentally unsteady to have a prime moment for a single instant move - the Kiss of Death is an extended technique rather than just a clap, so while it leaves Nagisa more vulnerable, it can override just about any state of mind (additionally, useful against those with impairments that would render the Nekodamashi less useful). The technique itself is a deep and intense kiss that, with his skill (he's seriously a really good kisser), overstimulates the target to the point of dizziness and then potentially to passing out (like, pleasant that-was-really-good-what-the-heck-was-I-doing overstimulation not everything-happening-too-much overstimulation). The effect of the kiss is quantified with a video-game-esque combo counter (x hits in y seconds), primarily because that's how he and the assassin who he learned it from think of it. Nagisa isn't very practiced with actually using it, but it's certainly effective. Presumably would not work against someone who wouldn't feel that kind of tactile stimulation.

Stealth: You know how some people just kind of fade into the background? He's one of those people, and it doesn't help that he's small and about as threatening as a potato. He's easily overlooked, even though he was there the whole time, and when he speaks up is when you notice he's there and maybe jump out of your skin a little - a friend and I refer to that as "The Nagisa Thing", and that's when he's not trying. When he is trying, he's a master of hiding his presence (as least, from normal human senses).

Bloodlust: This one is his signature skill. This is a difficult one to define - Assassination Classroom gives the concept of bloodlust the weight of an actual force - it's less a thirst for violence and causing others harm and more like predatory instinct or killing intent. Think of that sense of being stalked by some beast that could eat you in three bites (although Nagisa is best represented as a snake). It's usually hidden to the point no one would ever suspect it, not even a little - even on the rare occasion it slips and someone senses it, most would brush it off as a fluke or their imagination, because small, harmless Nagisa just does not fit the bill. The most observant (or paranoid) of people will pick up on it more often and be more easily able to connect it to Nagisa. When he goes for it, though, he practically has an aura of certain death. It isn't a wild or hectic feeling, it's very calm, even tranquil (usually accompanied by one of his saintly smiles), and it's also overpowering. Think of your character's gut reaction to suddenly sensing a blade or serpent's fangs at their throat - their response to a sure threat. Nagisa has full control over his bloodlust, as well - when he wants to, he can suppress it and cast it away to distract from his own actions - effectively get his target so caught up in where the threat is coming from they forget to actually keep track of where he is. He can combine this with the Nekodamashi, as well. The specifics of how someone responds to his bloodlust are entirely individual and out of my hands - have questions or need help figuring out how this works? Let's talk about it.

Observation: Nagisa's other signature skill. It starts simply enough - recon is where he starts, making notes of various basic facts and making a hobby of research so he knows all kinds of random facts and trivia, on top of being a perennial student always seeking to learn. He's of the mind that you never know what might be useful as a 'weakness', so he takes note of all kinds of things others don't, without judging for value. However, his skill is more intense than that - he has an eye for a person's physical tells. He'll be able to pick out telegraphed moves (provided his target is not of a skill level where those are no longer a thing) and, similarly but more impressively, he is able to pick up on minute movements. Breathing, the tiny movements of the eyes, heart rate, muscle twitches, etc etc. These are things all people do, without even thinking of them. If you're familiar with the idea of a cold read, he would be capable of doing that. For those who aren't, it's a way of watching someone very closely for reactions to information presented in order to pick up on it (such as a fake psychic knowing he's hit the right vehicle involved in an accident by guessing several and watching eye movement). As such, while not in fact a mind-reader, he will know if he's being lied to and can make accurate guesses about someone's state of mind (although they are still guesses). He perceives these tiny tells as second-nature, as easily as reading a book, and blends them into what he perceives as a "wavelength of consciousness". He can use this wavelength to pinpoint the best moment to use the Nekodamashi (or if it'll be ineffective), and he is able to match his own wavelength to someone else's to enhance his stealth - effectively disappearing from even a professional assassin's radar enough to touch without being noticed - like a pickpocket. He also appears to have some knowledge of pressure points, as he's shown using one to quickly calm someone and steady their wavelength (you know how sometimes in media, someone uses a pressure point in the neck to knock someone else out? It's like a low-key version of that). His ability to understand a wavelength of consciousness is dependent on his ability to read someone's tells - therefore if he cannot see the person he'll be greatly impeded, and he'll have difficulty reading anyone who doesn't actually have a human face (or someone who wouldn't have human tells, or someone who'd be an expert at hiding their tells). He's not a mind reader, not by a long shot, but he's a very good guesser.

If you have questions or want to discuss how any of the above might affect your character, drop me a line. If you would like to avoid dealing with any one or combination of the above, or would like to avoid threads with Nagisa altogether, this is the place to let me know. Please specify which journal(s) you're setting up boundaries for.
theserpentsmiles: (All these things I can do without)
Or driving. Whatever floats your boat. How am I doing with Nagisa? Do you have any concerns about how I'm handling his skills? Am I forgetting some glaring point in canon I need to remember right now? Here's the place to tell me!
theserpentsmiles: (Default)
Feel free to injure Nagisa, hug him, etc. Serious injuries we'll need to talk about. Come talk to me if you're after his life. I'll do the copy paste form when I'm not bound to my phone.

I would prefer if characters who aren't naturally inclined to judge and mistrust everyone not be able to pick up that he isn't so harmless. For Avenger Academy purposes, if you'd like your character to be aware of something from his background, here's the place to talk about that.

Kissing Nagisa is an experience. Feel free to try - he is easy to get the better of physically. Understand however that he is an incredibly good kisser and is capable of weaponizing it to a degree. Of your character is not an extremely experienced kisser, and if Nagisa is trying, it's entirely possible he could cause enough sensory overload to make your character pass out a bit.

The Nekodamashi is a technique he may use if your character gets in a fight with him. Does your character have functional ears? If so, they're susceptible. The Nekodamashi is essentially the Pokemon move Fake Out, and Nagisa's is powerful enough to use sound waves to briefly dry the victim's nervous system. It will not cause lasting physical damage, but may have a psychological effect of your character is already kind of unhinged. Want to talk over how much it might affect your character? Want me to avoid it entirely? Drop me a note here.

Finally, Nagisa's thing is observation. He is unnervingly good at reading people, particularly their small tells. Lie to him and he will know, unless you're covering your eyes, face, neck, and other major tell points. Try to hide your feelings and he will know. He won't necessarily use this knowledge, but understand that he can and will pick up on the parts your character doesn't say. The progression of this skill is still a mystery to him, but I'll add it here when he can do it. Let me know how okay you are with him reading your character here!

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Nagisa Shiota
Age: 15
Canon: Assassination Classroom
AU History: Largely like canon, but with the following changes:
- Our moon does not get blown up. Instead, one of Jupiter’s moons of comparable size suffers the initial explosion. The Japanese government is more easily able to cover this up.
- There is much less certainty regarding when Korosensei might blow up Earth, or if that will even happen, but the minimum is the one-year time limit.
- After the orphanage incident, Nagisa transfers to Avengers Academy for his own protection, as Takaoka has escaped again and the hit man known only as the God of Death, the greatest in the world, has shown some worrying interest in him. Karasuma arranges this with Nick Fury due to Nagisa’s incredible potential at assassination.
Personality: Nagisa, at first meeting, seems like a normal calm and friendly teenage boy -- and in many ways, he is. He likes normal things like sushi and makes a hobby out of research. He's fairly mature, especially compared to some of his more perverted classmates, but it might be more that he simply doesn't look at girls any differently than boys: gender and sex are taken as surface fact rather than anything particularly socially demanding. This is a pattern he takes with many things as observation is one of his key skills. He notices many things others don't very quickly, but sets them aside as facts instead of making much judgement. Nagisa has become extremely blasé about general oddity as a result, capable of handling most things with little more than a sigh. Sometimes he shows some skewed priorities regarding what the weirdest or worst part of a mild situation is. He is polite and good-natured, a gentle spirit who comes across as an herbivore. This, combined with his small stature and build, makes him quite the bully magnet.

Speaking of bullies, he has a considerable amount of respect for justice, rebellion, and revenge. He isn't vindictive by nature, but is more than willing to prove his chops or help someone fight back against a rotten system. This is thanks to both his time crushed under the weight of the Class E discrimination policy and Korosensei’s influence. His training has left him with almost a trigger -- mention killing around him and he takes it as a challenge. Tell him he can't or won't or could never and he will prove you wrong.

This brings me to his true nature, because while he is genuinely a nice and helpful person, he is absolutely not the harmless creature he comes across as. Nagisa hides a potent bloodlust, comparable to the deadliest serpent. He is capable of smiling like an angel and not batting an eye as he slips a knife between someone’s ribs. He hasn't actually killed anyone yet, but it comes to him as naturally as washing his hands. Even more terrifying, however, is that he doesn't know the fear of death. Nagisa holds no fear of dying, nor does the idea of killing someone scare him, nor is he rattled after leaving a life-or-death situation. This isn't to say he’s reckless or that he’s always calm; neither of those are true. He has anxieties and worries. He approaches danger carefully, thinking through his moves and keeping a general, adaptable plan, but fear and acknowledging danger are different. In heated situations, fear is replaced by other feelings, such as anger or spite, and those will be how he loses his cool. Fear, understood as paralyzing terror for his own well-being, is not a factor for him: he very literally doesn't afraid of anything.

He can feel plenty of other things, though. Anger is one. Hurting his friends is a very quick way to get him angry. The one time he grew angry enough to lose all cool was when Takaoka blew up the antidote to the poison used on his class. He knows perfectly well that his classmates are capable of taking care of themselves, so endangering them alone won't set him off, but taking away their hope altogether will. Even then, with some help, he can regain his senses easily. He feels a milder, more spiteful anger when their agency is undermined. It’s part of his sense of rebellion -- he naturally fights against limits placed on him (without being a rule-breaker) and dislikes those who enforce them. He is sensible though, and only attacks the unfair limits -- normal rules like dress codes or polite behavior make sense to him.

Nagisa also doesn't feel much in the way of pride. While he is at this point fairly confident in his abilities and while he can be proud of his accomplishments or his class, he isn't bound or slowed by attacks on his honor. He is generally unbothered by most insults, aside from those that bring out his spiteful side (which are generally to the effect of “what can you expect from Class E”). He has no hesitation when it comes to casting aside his pride and will easily give in to others’ demands. In combination with his utter lack of fear, this makes it nigh-impossible to break his spirit.

Confidence is a fairly new thing for him, however. Being a bully magnet has that effect, and dropping into Class E and thereby losing what friends he had left only compounded it. Karma, a classmate, also factors into this lack of confidence: the two of them used to be close, but Karma slowly distanced himself and they eventually became only acquaintances. Nagisa believes Karma simply grew bored of him. He doesn't blame him for it, though: Nagisa doesn't notice things like his own talents, the potency of his bloodlust, or his lack of fear, so he considers himself to be easily forgotten or brushed aside. He can feel plenty of shame over his seemingly weak will. Another major issue in this vein is regarding his mother. She wanted a daughter and views her son as an extension of herself, which she uses to justify being controlling, manipulative, and even physically abusive. She won't let him cut his hair or decide the course of his life for himself. Nagisa finds it impossible to defy her and has resigned himself to her control. She is the source of his anxiety over his small size and androgynous appearance as well as his discomfort with gender presentation related jokes. Put simply: he hates that he could very easily pass for a girl.

The biggest external influence on Nagisa is Korosensei. As an assassination target and, more importantly, as a teacher, Korosensei bears no ill will or judgement against Class E. He teaches them to hone their skills as both assassins and students and makes sure to inspire them to rebel against the discrimination they face. Nagisa looks up to Korosensei more than anyone. They have a unique relationship where they can be friends, teacher and student, and assassin and target all at once. Korosensei inspired Nagisa to have some confidence in himself. While he still can't really see himself as all that impressive and has serious anxiety over what he wants to do with his life (again, partially derived from his mother’s control), the more Nagisa aspires to be like Korosensei, the further his limits get.

A key piece of Nagisa’s outlook is that he can constantly expand his limits. He approaches people and situations openly, without much judgement… He approaches everything as a student, and so he is constantly learning. He observes and quickly picks up on details, and he sorts and assimilates the best into his own style. He constantly develops and matures, and because he correlates education and assassination, he also approaches learning as a battle to be won. This is a quiet process, because Nagisa isn't the type of assassin who can win in a direct confrontation.

Nagisa’s every skill and trait build him into a perfect, pure assassin. He doesn't hold grudges or judge, he doesn't feel any particular love or fear toward death, he has no ambition but constantly seeks to refine and improve himself. His weaknesses are incredibly standard, considering the abnormality of his situation: he underestimates himself, has no clue what he’s supposed to do with his life, has no dream to chase, is easily dragged into trouble (when he doesn't attract it himself), and has easily exploitable issues with his mother and appearance. He doesn't see himself as valuable as an individual, though he could be helpful to a group. In essence, his view of himself is capable but weak.
Powers: Nagisa is more in the vein of Hawkeye. He doesn't actually have anything that could be easily called a superpower, he’s just extremely skilled. In this AU he's significantly more skilled than in canon, though he also has a lot of ways to improve still.
Parkour: He’s only begun learning this, but has the basics down. He can easily cross a city across the rooftops or ninja his way through a forest, but is still working on mastering it.
Knives: Nagisa’s preferred weapon. He typically has several expertly concealed on him when he’s at school due to the proximity to his target, and is comfortable enough to generally forget they're there. He is skilled in their use, with speed and skill being his greatest advantages. Seriously impressive handiwork.
Guns: While not a master shot, Nagisa is the seventh best marksman in his class. He usually hits the target so where nasty. Capable with both handguns and assault rifles. Often has a handgun and a stun gun in him if he’s got his knives.
Stealth: A major asset for Nagisa. He is easily overlooked because he can hide his presence perfectly, even without thinking about it. His unassuming appearance makes it easy to hide his assassin background, to the point he could probably convince his opponent he means no harm mid-fight.
Combat: This isn't Nagisa’s strong point purely because his slight build doesn't allow for much stamina or strength. He is much better off trying to kill on the first strike. Nevertheless, he has the hand-to-hand training to be a contender for a short time if he *is* drawn into battle.
Observation: Probably his most valuable asset. Nagisa has an uncanny knack for noting his surroundings and scouting his target’s weaknesses. He has the speed and reaction time to take advantage of what he picks up about his opponent’s moves and mindset. He has started to develop enough skill to read the micro tells of those around him, such as breathing and eye movement, like a book. He also easily picks up on details of technique and quickly learns what he can absorb into his own repertoire.
Nekodamashi: This is a technique derived from sumo wrestling which Nagisa has mastered. It’s basically the pokemon move Fake Out -- a clap that recreates the conditions for an assassination by throwing the enemy off guard and allowing a few brief seconds to strike. Nagisa’s nekodamashi is powerful enough to practically electrocute his opponents using sound waves alone.
Speed: Because his target is Korosensei, who moves at mach 20, Nagisa’s speed and reaction time have gone beyond normal bounds in an effort to keep up. He isn't a superspeedster himself, but he can track movements at that kind of speed well enough to react, and he is certainly just a cut above what could be called normal.
Bloodlust: Nagisa’s characteristic skill. He is unassuming and small but hides a monstrous bloodlust that easily paralyzes opponents many times his size. The visual metaphor used is usually a snake, but the idea is a general feeling of certain death and murderous intent beating down on you. He can’t always control this, sometimes terrifying people without meaning to, but at those moments it usually fades instantly without leaving any impression that he was the source of that terror. His bloodlust is potent enough to call him a monster.
Special Gym Clothes: These aren't a skill, but special gear. It's a set of high-quality lightweight body armor with good (inflatable for added head protection), retractable clear visor, holsters for all his weapons, intercom, and a surface that is easy to paint custom camoflage on and easy to clean off. The armor is durable enough to survive massive impacts but designed to fool the enemy with simulated sounds of cracking bones.
